Journey to the Cross - a Lenten DevotionalThis year's Lenten devotional will be available at the Ash Wednesday Service as well as Sunday morninig. It is a wonderful way to journey through the Scriptures and the life of Jesus. We seek to encourage each other to grow in the love and lifestyle of Jesus Christ. This wonderful devotional will take us through a daily time of Scripture reading and reflection. Please pick up one of the devotional guides this week and let's journey together as we strengthen our awareness of the life of Christ this Lenten season. ![]() 2012 Lenten Season Opens this Week with Ash Wednesday On Wednesday morning from 7 to 9 AM and on Wednesday night at 6 PM we will unite in the sanctuary here at First United Methodist for a time of worship, prayer, and symbolically marking our foreheads and hands with the cross of Christ. Ash Wednesday opens the season of Lent, a time when we remember how much we need Christ, that we need to repent and turn to him, and how much Christ continues to do for us. Join us at either of these opportunities to lift your heart to Christ. Roof Repair is Underway After months of planning and anticipation, the much awaited roof project is well underway. Our Trustees, with the direction of Cecil Underwood have done a great job getting everything in order. The many hours spent in meetings, and the consideration of all the options is now resulting in the much needed repairs and upgrades to the Sanctuary Roof. Thank you to Cecil, the Trustees, Dana Smith, and our Church Administrator Gray King for all you have and are doing. We look forward to the completion of this much needed project in the weeks ahead. ![]() Thank You to our Friendship Team Each week these dedicated people make themselves available to welcome and help those of our church family and our visitors feel at home here during worship and many other activities here at the church. Last week the team took time for a little food and fun. Well deserved. They also help prepare food and welcome those in our New Member classes as they learn about the many ways First United is active each week. Thank You to our Friendship Team for your dedication and faithful blessings. Enhance Your Devotions and Bible Study Recently I shared with our congregation two resources which can enhance your Daily Bible Study and Devotional life. First, is an app for your Smartphone, iPad, or Android called "You Version". It is a Bible reading application which has reading plans, multiple versions of the Bible, and other helps. It is a free download from your provider and can give you hours of enjoyable Bible Study. In the computer area you can access a wonderful site called "BibleGateway.com" Here you will find versions of the Bible, Studies, Commentaries and many links to helpful resources fOr your devotional life. Micah has put these resources and others in the Resources tab on the home page. Check these out and create a Bible Reading Plan today to get you into God's Word daily. The local Sonrise Emmaus Community is sponsoring and getting the leadership and volunteers ready for each of these events and your prayers are needed as participants ready to invest themselves in three days of spritual renewal and strengthening their understanding of God's presence in their lives and the life of their churches. Thank you to all who are working to make this happen and we pray for God's richest blessings on all who are a part of these weekends . Ormond Beach Police Want You to Know Our Ormond Beach officers are working to raise awareness of crimes of opportunity. For the last several weeks they have walked the parking lot and have left notices on the cars of those who are at risk for smash and grab crimes as well as other cautions. Let's all be more aware of how we can minimize this growing concern at church and around our community. |
